Wife of columnist and poet Farhad Mazhar yesterday rejected the investigation report of the Detective Branch (DB) that did not find any proof of Farhad’s abduction, and sought time to lodge a no
confidence petition in this connection.
While Magistrate Khurshid Alam of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka adjourned Thursday’s hearing until January 9 and asked Mazhar’s wife Farida Akhter to move the petition that date. Besides, the court yesterday directed police to file a case against writer Farhad Mazhar and his wife Farida Akhter for making the alleged ‘drama of abduction’ in July.
Earlier on November 14, DB Inspector and Investigation Officer of the case Mahbubul Haque, submitted the final report to the CMM Court mentioning that they did not find any proof of abduction. The report also sought permission for taking action under Section 109 and 211 of penal code against Farhad Mazhar and his wife Farida on the charge of filing a false case for abduction. Later, the court fixed December 7 for next hearing.
On July 3, Farida Akhter claimed that Farhad Mazhar had been abducted by unknown miscreants from Adabar in the capital in the early hours of the day.
Later, police allegedly found him in a bus of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ around 11:30 pm the same day, while he was returning to Dhaka from Khulna and his wife filed the case with Adabar Police Station of the capital alleging that her husband was abducted and the abductors demanded Tk 35 lakh for his release. The case was later transferred to the Detective Branch of police.
