Farabi put on fresh remand

A Dhaka court on Saturday placed Shafiur Rahman Farabi on a fresh five-day remand in the murder case of writer-blogger Abhijit Roy.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md Atiqur Rahman passed the order after hearing arguments.
Inspector Wahiduzzaman of Detective Branch (DB) of Police sought 10 days remand for Farabi at the court, pleading that they required further interrogation to get more information from the suspect about Abhijit’s murder.
No lawyer appeared for Farabi during the proceedings and no application was
placed for his bail before the court.
Farabi earlier was placed on 10-day remand by the court on March 3 on charge of killing Abhijit.
Farabi was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Jatrabari Bus Terminal when he was preparing to leave Dhaka for Chittagong on March 2.
Avijit was killed and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya was seriously injured when they were hacked by unknown miscreants at TSC of Dhaka University on February 26 night.
Police arrested Farabi as he several times threatened the expatriate blogger to kill on Facebook and other social medias.
Farabi was arrest twice earlier for vandalism and his links with Islamist militant groups. He was arrested for vandalism at Chittagong University campus in 2010.
Later, he was arrested again in 2013 for giving death threat to an Imam, who conducted Namaz-e-Janaza of Rajib Haider, also a blogger killed by a group of local militants.
