Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah, MP, Friday said due to different social development projects of the present government, famine, which was regular phenomenon in country’s northern region, has become a distant history now.
“Famine has gone from north region. The region’s literacy rate has gone up and social inequality down. The region is now strengthening its position in the row of developed districts,” he said.
Advocate Miah came up with the observations while addressing the freshers reception and farewell ceremony organized by Jahangirnagar University unit of Gaibandha District Students Welfare Society (GDSWS), a varsity release said.
Presided over by GDSWS’s president Habibur Rahman Ratan, the function was also addressed by Dr Md Eunus Ali Sarkar, MP, Md Abul Kalam Azad, MP, Md Monjurul Islam Liton, MP, and varsity registrar Abu Bakar Siddique.
