Family members who were allowed to meet the jailed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Saturday afternoon said that they were worried at the deteriorating health condition of the former prime minister.
Khaleda’s sister Selima Islam said, “If Khaleda Zia is not given proper treatment at the moment, I cannot say what will happen

to her. So, we request the government to release the BNP Chief so that she can get advanced treatment.”
Five family members including her sister Selima Islam, brother Shamim Iskander, sister in-law Kaniz Fatema, nephew Ovik Iskandar and niece Shamiya Iskandar met ailing BNP chief. They found her health not in good condition but deteriorating.
Khaleda Zia’s sister Selima Islam said, we are anxious as she cannot walk and even she cannot take food on her own.
She said, “The way her (Khaleda’s) physical condition has deteriorated, we fear that we would not be able to take her home alive if her stay here prolongs. Any pitiful accident can take place anytime.”
About Khaleda’s present health condition, Selima said, she is suffering from fever. “She cannot bend her left hand and she is suffering from acute pains. “Her proper treatment is not possible in this hospital (BSMMU).”
She further said though the BNP Chief has been receiving treatment at the BSMMU for nearly a year, her condition is not improving. “That is why we want her to get advanced treatment at any other sophisticated hospital,” Selima added.
