Staff Reporter :The family of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman is expected to visit him at the Dhaka Central Jail on Saturday. “We wanted to meet himtoday (Friday). But, as per the suggestions of our lawyers, we decided to meet him on Saturday,” Hasan Iqbal, the son of Kamaruzzaman, said on Friday. “We can meet our father once a month. Last time we met him on January 31. We were scheduled to meet him again on February 28. But now want to meet him earlier,” he said. The lawyers of Kamaruzzaman also wanted to meet the death row convict Saturday, the defence lawyer Advocate Shishir Munir said. However, the Senior Superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail Forman Ali said the lawyers of Kamaruzzaman had verbally informed him of their intention to meet the convict today.Kamaruzzaman also wanted to talk to his lawyers after hearing about his ‘Death Warrant’ on Thursday, he said. The International Crimes Tribunal, which handed down capital punishment to the Jamaat leader, sent Death Warrant of him to Dhaka Central Jail on February 19. Kamaruzzaman, the Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, was sentenced to death for his involvement in crimes against humanity in 1971. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Kamaruzzaman and released the full text of verdict of his appeal petition on February 18.
