The family members and relatives, including parents, on Thursday expressed satisfaction over the verdict in Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case and demanded its immediate execution. Earlier in the day, a tribunal sentenced all the 16 accused to death for their roles in killing madrasa student Nusrat. Shirin Akther, mother of Nusrat, urged the authorities concerned to execute the verdict quickly. “I would to thank hounourable Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina. Alhamdulillah, I’m so happy with the verdict,” she said.
Talking to media, Nusrat’s father AK Musa also expressed satisfaction over the verdict and sought protection, fearing attack on his family.
My family has cried for more than six months (since Nusrat murder),” Musa told reporters. “We have been waiting for this day.”
“All of the accused were sentenced to death today [Thursday],” he said. “Nusrat’s soul will now rest in peace.”
Expressing satisfaction over the verdict in Nusrat murder case, her brother Mahmudul Hasan Noman on Thursday demanded immediate execution of the judgment.
He also thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after the verdict that awarded death penalty to all the 16 people, including sacked sonagazi madrasa Principal Siraj Ud Doula and Awami League leader Ruhul Amin.
Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 on the rooftoop of the madrasah she attended, allegedly by people loyal to its principal Siraj Ud Doula whom she had accused of sexually harassing her. She succumbed to her burn injuries four days later at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
A case was filed with Feni’s Sonagazi Police Station on April 8. Police pressed charges in court against 16 people on May 29. Nusrat’s family also demanded security until execution of the verdict in the sensational murder case in which all sixteen accused were sentenced to death by a Feni tribunal. Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s elder brother Mahmudul Hasan Noman said, “Convicts have openly threatened us on the Feni court premises. Besides, they’re giving us threats in other ways,” reports our Feni Correspondent.
After the verdict on the Feni court premises on Thursday (October 24), Noman said, “We hope the government will protect us until the verdict is executed.”
