UNB, Dhaka :BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan on Wednesday alleged that the government is ‘filing false cases’ againstBNP leaders and activists as its last resort to suppressive measure against them.”There’s a rule in playing cards … if you don’t have no other suitable card you can play the colour. The government has also taken the same tactic as it’s implicating our leaders and activists in false cases having failed to get any other option to subdue them,” he said.Nazrul, a BNP standing committee member, came up with the allegation while addressing a programme arranged by Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal at the Jatiya Press Club protesting the issuance of a warrant for the arrest of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman in a sedition case.On Sunday, a court here issued the arrest warrant in the sedition case filed against Tarique for terming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ‘Pakbandhu’. Nazrul said thousands of leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies were sent to jails across the country by arresting them while many others were forced to go into hiding by implicating them in ‘false’ case. He said, the government fears most their leader Tarique Rahman for his organisational capacity and huge popularity. The BNP leader said though Awami League has long been carried out a campaign against Tarique Rahman that he indulged in massive corruption, they could not prove any allegation of corruption against him over the last nine years.”Tarique Rahman had no involvement in corruption. All the cases filed against him are false, fabricated and politically motivated. Those cases were filed only to malign him,” he claimed.Nazrul said, no obstacle like cases and arrest warrants can resist Tarique from returning home when he will competently recover from his illness. He also said their senior vice chairman is preparing himself in London trough engaging in studies for leading the nation in the future.
