Fakhrul’s bail in 3 cases upheld

The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday upheld the High Court (HC) order that granting three months’ bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three arson attack cases.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the government. The government filed the petition with the SC on November 26 challenging the HC order granting three months’ bail to the BNP leader in the three cases.
After primary hearing of the petition, the chamber
judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique sent it to the regular bench of the division fixing yesterday (November 30) for the next hearing.
Additional Attorney General Mamtaz Uddin Fakir argued for the state while Advocate Joynal Abedin stood for the defence. Earlier on November 24, the HC granted three months bail to Fakhrul in three vandalism cases.
Two of the cases were filed with Paltan Police Station while another with Motijheel Police Station.
On 16 April, Mirza Fakhrul secured six months’ bail from the HC in another case filed with Paltan Police Station on 4 January for allegedly carrying out arson attack and vandalism.
