UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Saturday thanked Prime Minister’s adviser HT Imam for what it said exposing the conspiracy of theruling Awami League over the January-5 polls.
“HT Imam has revealed how they (AL) used the January-5 election and how they shattered the people’s hopes and aspirations, and democracy. I thank him for exposing the truth,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP leader was addressing a discussion titled ‘Shaheed Zia and Democracy’ arranged by Bangladesh Peshajibi Parishad at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.
Earlier on Wednesday, HT Imam, addressing a BCL programme at Dhaka University, said, “You (BCL men) just pass the written test of BCS, we’ll see how much we can help you with the viva voce. Our leader (Sheikh Hasina) has told us to arrange jobs for you by any means.”
He also pointed out the advantage of having party men in the administration, and how the AL benefited from them. “Days before the January-5 polls, many pro-Awami League officials were inducted into mobile courts that helped the government resist the BNP-Jamaat’s bid to thwart the election. They (pro-AL officials) stood beside us,” Imam said.
Fakhrul said, the cat has come out of the bag of the ruling party with the HT Imam’s remarks about the January-5 election that his party boycotted. “It has also exposed the true colour of Awami League.” He lamented that the government wants to provide public jobs to the ‘golden boys’ of Chhatra League who have grabbed educational institutions and people’s house and property. “Awami League doesn’t believe in democracy,” he said adding that the party is now planning to re-establish the one-party Baksal rule to hang onto power as it got isolated from people for its misrule.
The BNP spokesman alleged that the government is trying to keep BNP leaders away from politics by implicating them in ‘false’ cases. He called upon the party ladders and activists not to be frustrated as the success of their movement is certain. “We may have weakness and mistakes, but people don’t make mistakes and they’ll one day come up with a befitting reply.”
