Staff Reporter :
BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Friday said that the government has begun to surrender to the BNP-led alliance’s key demand of fresh Parliamentary polls under a non-party government system.
He also said that the BNP is ready to contest in polls whenever it is organised.
The press conference was organised after a joint meeting of the party held at the Nayapaltan office. Mirza Fakhrul chaired the meeting.
Referring to the Thursday’s press conference of Sheikh Hasina, Mirza Fakhrul said the PM had arranged the traditional conference like past. The PM addressed the media after her UAE visit and made the statement. The BNP leader, however, termed the PM’s UAE visit as ‘failure’.
He protested the PM’s comment about the January-5 election and said that Sheikh Hasina has been making ‘false statement’ about the election. The election was nothing but a staged drama of the ruling party, he commented. He urged the government to take immediate initiative to arrange mid-term election according to the demand of the people. He said that his party is also gearing to wage a “harsher anti-government movement” to realise their key demand. If the government does not come forward to arrange mid-term polls, it will be forced to do so, he warned.
