BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday expressed his optimism about winning the ensuing general election.
“There are a sense of awakening among the people and that indicates that changes are almost certain. We still think we are going to win in the polls. The power of the mass is so strong that it can conquer anything,” Mirza Fakhrul said it while speaking to reporters in his home town of Thakurgaon district headquarters.
He accused the ruling Awami League of destroying the polls atmosphere with its violent actions.
“The AL is ruining the election environment with the support of a section of administration officials. Ruling party is trying to scare voters so that they do not participate in the polls,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
He said, Awami League has attacked several senior BNP leaders during their campaigns. It is unfortunate that they have carried out such heinous attacks with the support of a section of police and administration officials.
The BNP leader said, the election atmosphere of Thakurgaon has been damaged by the ruling party men. He said, “I visited Thakurgaon just a few days ago and found the situation much better. But I witnessed during this time that Awami League was carrying machetes and threatening voters, door-to-door, asking them not to go to the polling stations.” Mirza Fakhrul alleged that Awami League is trying utmost to prevent BNP from campaigning to win the polls.
He said, “The BNP will contest in the election regardless of the situation. We want to showcase the fact that a free and fair election can never be possible under the Awami League government.”
