Fakhrul hopeful of getting back Khaleda’s candidacy

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said that the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia would get back her candidacy in three constituencies if justice is done.
Earlier, on December 2, the Returning Officers cancelled Khaleda Zia’s candidacy from Bogura-6 and 7 and Feni-1 Constituencies, as she was convicted by the court over two years in two graft cases.
The BNP on Wednesday filed appeal demanding her candidacy back.
BNP Law Affairs Secretary Barrister Kaiser Kamal led a team to submit the appeal on behalf of Khaleda Zia.
Barrister Kaiser Kamal told journalists that according to Aarticle 66, Khaleda Zia’s cases are continuing as appeals are pending against the verdicts of the two cases.
“No one’s candidacy will be cancelled if appeals continue,” Kaiser Kamal said on the day.
Mirza Fakhrul echoed the hope and said, many of the BNP men will get back their candidacies through appeal, Khaleda Zia will also contest as a legal candidate if she gets justice.
The BNP Secretary General also thanked the Election Commission for sending back party aspirants candidacies in most of the seats where they were denied on December 2.
He said, “We are frequently saying that the officials are working under pressure of the current government. Whatsoever the weight of the pressure, we shall repel.”
