The High Court (HC) granted six months interim bail to BNP’s Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a violence case on Thursday.
The bench of Justice Md Nuruzzaman and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order after hearing bail petitions, filed by the detained BNP leader.
Police filed the case against Mirza Fakhrul on January 4 this year with the Paltan Police Station for torching a car.
The court also issued three separate rules upon
the government, seeking an explanation as to why the BNP leader would not be granted bail in the other three charges.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka and other authorities concerned were made responds to the rules. The court asked them to submit their replies within the next two weeks.
Of the three cases, Police filed two cases on January 4, 2015 year, while other on December 29 last year for planning and instigating subversive activities during the hartal.
Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, AJ Mohammad Ali and Joynul Abedin stood for Mirza Fakhrul, while Additional Attorney General Mamataj Uddin Fakir appeared for the State.
