Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said, the government should hold trial of the arrested suspects in order to ascertain their connection with the militancy.
“The government should first recognize who are militants and who are not. We have seen that police arrested many a man apprehending their militancy connection, but most of them were not produced in the court. Trial after fair investigation only can determine their identities,” he said.
The BNP Secretary General said it while addressing a discussion meeting in the Institution of Engineers in the capital city yesterday organised by the Uttaranchal Chhatra Forum to mark the 9th anniversary of the release of BNP’s Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman from jail.
Mirza Fakhrul also alleged that the ruling Awami League has used militancy issues in
the past days to attain political privileges. “The Awami League has fallen into their own trap. They frequently shouted in the gone days about militancy in Bangladesh, but now denies. This is contradictory claims,” he said.
The BNP leader said, “Tarique Rahman has been passing days in exile to avoid the ruling party’s political vengeance. He is the victim of conspiracy hatched by the government.”
He accused the government of hindering Tarique’s return to the country and trying to banish BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and other leaders from politics filing manufactured cases one after another.
“Why does the government fear the BNP leaders and activists so much? He questioned.
BNP Mass Education Affairs Secretary Obayedul Islam presided over the program, while the party’s central leader Gazi Mazharul Anwar, Habibur Rahman, Barristar Kayser Kamal, Shahidul Islam Babul and Abdul Quader Bhuiyan Jewel, among others, were present in the program.
