BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday asked the ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader to restrain himself in using languages.
“The way Obaidul Quader threatened me yesterday could not be the languages of politics. I request you to restrain yourself in using language,” Mirza Fakhrul said in a seminar arranged by Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal at National Press Club in Dhaka.
With reference to the AL General Secretary, the BNP leader said, “Why are you practising falsehood? What democracy are you practising? You don’t believe in democracy. If you believed in democracy then you would not have spoken using such type of language in your speech.”
Mirza Fakhrul said, “We never disrespect their (Awami League) leaders. We respect every individual’s contribution they deserve. It was taught by Ziaur Rahman. But, Awami League never do this practice. That is why they always disregard our leaders who served for the country, for the nation.”
The BNP leader said to the government, “Today, you have beat students on campus and you are justifying it again. The ruling party appreciated and said Chhatra League has done well. This is what Awami League is.”
Mirza Fakhrul asked all to form a greater alliance against the current regime to get rid of the worrying situation.
The BNP leader also criticised the government for essentials commodities’ price hike.
He said that the government with its character of looting is pocketing huge amounts of money by increasing the prices of the peoples’ daily essentials.
He accused of the ruling party behind price hiking.
“Price of rice has increased another time due to the exploitation of the thieves and looters of Awami League. The government will plunder the profits and cut the pockets of people. This is their main target. They really want not the welfare of people,” he said.
