A court here on Thursday relived 26 people, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, its standing committee members Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, from a violence case filed under the Anti Terrorism
(Amendment) Act, 2013.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Kamrul Hossain Molla passed the order after accepting the chargesheet placed by police in the case.
Some other BNP leaders relieved from the case include Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, Saiful Islam Nirob, Abdus Salam and Salahuddin Ahmed.
According to the case statement, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on a bus near Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in Paribagh during a hartal enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance on January 3 in 2014, killing Shaheen Akter and Farid Mia and injuring its driver Babul Miah.
