UNB, Dhaka :
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday alleged that the current government is killing and repressing the opposition leaders and activists in the Israeli style.
“The Israeli troops are mindlessly and inhumanly carrying out carnage in Palestine. The same condition is prevailing in our country. Around 310 opposition leaders and activists had been killed and 65 others made disappeared by the current regime since it came to power through the January-5 polls,” he said.
Addressing an Iftar party, Fakhrul also alleged that the way Israel is killing the Palestine people, the
Awami League government is killing its opponents.
Labour Party, one of the components of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, arranged the Iftar party at a city hotel.
Referring to the government’s move to restore parliament’s power to impeach judges, the BNP spokesperson said the judiciary will lose its independence if the House is given such power.
Earlier at a programme, Fakhrul observed that Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) should be disbanded in the light of the Human Rights Watch’s demand.
“Rab went beyond reform. If the force is not disbanded, there’ll be no security of people,” he told reporters after distributing clothes among the destitute children in the capital.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddher Projanma arranged the programme at a city hotel at Nayapaltan.
Fakhrul alleged that the government is using the law enforcement agencies as its party cadres. “Rab and police are being used in killing people and making them disappeared.”
