Arson case: Fakhrul, 72 others charge-sheeted

Court Correspondent :A Sub-Inspector of Paltan Police Station in the capital yesterday submitted charge- sheets to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka against 73 leaders and activists of the then BNP-led 18 party alliance including the Acting Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case filed for cocktail blasts and vandalism during a road blockade in December 2012.Sub-Inspector Abu Jafar of the police station, who is also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted two separate charge-sheets against the accused- one for vandalism and the other for hurling cocktails at policemen.The IO said that, Fakhrul’s name was found in the investigation although his name was not included in the First Information Report (FIR).The FIR says that, about 300 leaders and activists of the alliance brought out a procession from Fakirerpool on December 9 and at one stage, the members of the procession threw cocktails at the policemen who were performing their duties on the occasion and vandalized vehicles of the street.
