Fake SMS of arrear bills from Titas Gas Company have surprised thousands of its clients in the capital, sources said.
“I got a text message from Titas gas describing one lakh taka arrear gas bills due to me. It also reiterated me to pay the bills soon. I have really no arrear gas bills. So I rushed to the Titas office at Motijheel. I was informed that it was a fake SMS, as a trial from Titas office’s new software,” said Nahid Hasan from Malibagh in the capital.
He said, “Firstly I was worried after getting the message. Later I learnt that it was fake SMS but it pained me.
It was not only the case of Nahid Hasan, but for about 50 thousands Titas gas clients, sources said.
Thousands of titas gas clients have got such text messages most of whom had not dues and rushed to the Titas Motijheel office for searching the causes of sending them such SMS.

The clients said that finally they got relieved after inquiry, but it pushed them into serious tensions. It also made untold sufferings as they rushed to the Motijheel office through huge traffic grid lock.
Titas officials said that they have 72 thousand of clients under the Motijheel zonal office and about 50 thousands of those mobile numbers have been saved in its software.
As a trial task, such fake messages have been sent to almost all of those 50 thousand clients.
Contacted, AKM Mahbub Ali, Deputy General Manager of Dhaka Metro Revenue Division said that it was not a problem.
The SMS was sent intentionally as a trial case.
“Clients have rushed to us with their receipt books and we have up dated their receipt books as per their real dues,” he said.
He said that clients used to pay their bills through banks. Banks have not sent us the up-date for long so that we sent the trial SMS to almost all clients.
