Police have arrested a fake magistrate, while he was extorting money from the local businessmen and shopkeepers in Dhaka’s Keraniganj on Friday.
The fraud was identified as Monir Hossain, 35.
Abu Salam Miah, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Keraniganj Model Police,
confirmed the matter to the New Nation saying that the arrested man was a member of the gang of four. The other members ran away sensing Police’s arrival.
According to police, locals detained Monir while he was extorting money from the Lakhirchar Mail Gate area of Rohitpur Union around 11am on Friday.
He was later handed over to the Keraniganj Model Police.
A private car (Dhaka Metro 15 1335) used for extortion and some documents were also seized from the spot.
According to victim Riazul, this gang collected Taka 40,000 from his hotel. Since he did not have money, he borrowed this money from others and paid it to the fraudsters.
Another victim Taizul Islam said that fraud Monir collected Taka 20,000 from his grocery store and Taka 2000 and 4000 from other shopkeepers. Apart from this, allegations of extortion have also been found in the new Sonakanda BSIC industrial area and Lakhirchar Bridge area.
Keraniganj Model Police Station Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kamrul Hasan Sohel said mobile courts work with the support of the police and government manpower. You should all will be careful later, and if you have any such suspicions, contact the nearest law enforcement agency.
A case is being processed at Keraniganj Model Police Station in this regard.
