Fake fertilizer factory fined in Ishwardi

The Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection conducted a raid in Ishwardi and fined Nizam Uddin Khan, the factory owner of Nap Agro Chemical Limited,Tk one lakh on the charges of fake fertilizer and marketing. Zahirul Islam, assistant director of Pabna consumer rights protection directorate, conducted the operation in Baharpur village of Muladuli union of upazila on Sunday (August 28).
Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Mahmudul Alam Khan said that fake fertilizers and pesticides have been manufactured and marketed from this factory named Nap Agro Chemical Limited for a long time. 13 types of fertilizers and pesticides are manufactured here illegally. Fertilizers and pesticides produced here are made with fake ingredients instead of the ones they are supposed to be made with. Their manufactured fertilizers and pesticides are completely fake. Around 13 types of fake fertilizers and pesticides were seized, including gypsum, zinc, abon, soyabate dioxin. Farmers are being cheated and suffering financial losses.
Zahirul Islam, Assistant Director of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection, said that the agricultural extension officer was in this campaign and he confirmed that the fertilizer that is being packaged for marketing is actually not in the package. They are not delivering the fertilizer as promised on their packets. Also they are using fake factory address. Fertilizer is being manufactured in Ishwardi but the address of the factory is given in Mirpur of Dhaka. Due to these reasons, a fine of one lakh taka and counterfeit fertilizers and pesticides were seized.
Upazila Food Inspector Sanwar Hossain along with policemen were present at the time.
