The people of all walks of life are facing various infectious diseases, like cancer, kidney skin, eye, brain and heart diseases due to using forged and date expired cosmetics.
Even such as the highly affected the pregnant women sometimes gave birth physically challenged babies. The children also lost their normal growth and mental health by affecting contaminated cosmetics.
People of all trade, including the stars of silver screens may loss their hair and brightness of skins by using forged cosmetic goods, pharmacy and medicine experts said.
“The use of fake cosmetic is causing various types pf cancer, cardiac arrest, brains stocks and many skin diseases by creating barrier in blood circulation in the human body,” ABM Faroque, a Professor, Pharmacy Department at Dhaka University told The New Nation on Sunday.
He said the unscrupulous manufacturers mixed various toxic chemicals, including mercury, lead, phosphorus, oil etc while producing such cosmetic products posing potential threat to artery and veins, stomach, brains and other vital organs of a human body.
“These chemicals are also damaging liver, kidney, sperm and ovum. Even the children lost their normal growth, women victimized of abortion and sometimes giving births of physically challenged babies,” added Professor Faroque.
He also urged the government to take necessary steps for imposing ban on producing and selling of the forged cosmetic goods considering interest of the people.
The proper monitoring and public awareness may help to prevent usages of fake cosmetics, he said.
“Most of the patents suffered skin diseases due to lack blood circulation in the body. Usages of fake and date expired cosmetics are leading to skin diseases,” said Professor Zillur Rahamn Bhuyian of Sex and Dermatology Department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
He advised the consumers to be more cautious about the use and buy toiletries and cosmetics.
Sources said, the fake products are made with labels of various renowned brands in factories spread across Jinjira, Kushirbagh, Mandail, Bamonshur, Kalindi of Keraniganj area and Chowkbazar, Begumbazar, Rahmatganj, Kamalbagh, Islambagh, Debidas Ghat, Boroktara, Chotokatra and Kamrangirchar.
These fake products are mainly sold in Chowkbazar and Moulvibazar in Dhaka, said Anwar Pasha, an executive magistrate. The syndicates produce soaps and shampoos, cold creams and snows, fairness creams, powders, nail polish, lipsticks, oils, lotions and shaving creams, using labels of Lever Brothers, Square Toiletries, Kohinoor Chemical and Lalbagh Chemical, he said.
At least 2600 people were fined about Tk 30 crore and over 1000 people also jailed in this connection in the capital. Even more than 1500 cases were filed and at least two hundred factories were sealed during the drive against fake cosmetics in last two years, Pasha said.
He said that the mobile court seized huge cosmetic brand worth about Tk 20 lakh from Old Dhaka on Sunday. The court fined Tk 11 lakh and arrested seven persons in this connection.
