Commerce Minister Tipu Minshu has said it is necessary to ensure fair prices for readymade garments produced in Bangladesh.
“Although the production cost of readymade garments in Bangladesh has increased, the buyers have not increased the price in comparison. We need to ensure fair price of readymade garments in Bangladesh,” said the minister.
The minister made this remark during his first meeting with US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Hass at the Secretariat, said a press release signed by Ministry of Commerce Public Relations Officer Md Abdul Latif Bakshi on Thursday.
“The work of setting up 100 special economic zones in important places of the country, under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is progressing fast. US investors will benefit if they invest in Bangladesh’s special economic zone,” the minister added.
“Bangladesh has already graduated from LDC and become a developing country. In the days to come, US economic and trade relations with Bangladesh will be further enhanced,” said Haas.
Tipu Munshi also said Bangladesh is making efforts to sign trade agreements like PTA or FTA to create trade facilities with different countries. In this way, even if Bangladesh loses tariffs temporarily, the country will benefit in the long run.
