National Sub-Junior FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman emerged unbeaten champion in the Union Insurance 34th National Junior (Under-20) Chess Championship on Wednesday. The concluding day of the championship was held at the hall-room of Bangladesh Chess Federation.
Fahad earned 8½ points to clinch the junior title. Ikramul Haque Siam became runner-up with 8 points. Avik Sarkar of Mymensingh became 3rd and Anata Chowdhury of Dhaka became 4th with 7 points each. Md Minhazul Alam of Narayanganj finished 5th with 6½ points.
Zaharatul Zannat Zisha became champion with 7 points in the girls’ section. Protiva Talukdar emerged runner-up, Sumaiya Khondoker of Narayanganj finished 3rd and Afrin Jahan Munia became 4th with 6½ points each. Musrat Jahan Munia finished 5th with 6 points.
The 9th or last round games were held yesterday (Wednesday). In the last round games, Fahad drew with Avik, Siam beat Muhit, Munia drew with Rafshan, Anata beat Akib, Zisha beat Momo, Minhaz beat Bakar and Protiva drew with Swarnavo.
The prize distribution ceremony was held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. Renowned sports organiser and Chairman of Union Insurance Company Limited Muzaffar Hossain Paltu distributed the prizes among the winners as the chief guest. Sk Abdur Rafiq, Managing Director of Union Insurance Company Limited was present as the special guest. KM Shahidullah, Vice-President of Bangladesh Chess Federation presided over the prize-giving ceremony. Vice-President of Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) Md Mokaddesh Hossain, General Secretary of BCF Gazi Shayiful Tarique, Joint-Secretaries of the Federation Morsalin Ahmed and Shamim Khan, Executive Members of BCF Ln Mazibur Rahman Howladar and Shaikh Monirul Islam Alamgir were present at the time.
