FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman and Manon Reza Neer won Gold Medals in the 2nd Western Asia Youth Chess Championship 2017 which concluded on Sunday at Waskaduwa in Sri Lanka.
FM Fahad accumulated 7 points out of 9 games to finish at top and was awarded gold medal in the Open Under-14 group. FM Fahad finished the meet as unbeaten champion in his category.
Neer collected 6 points out of 9 games and clinch Gold medal in Open Under-8 Group.
The 9th or last round games were held on Sunday. In last round FM Fahad drew with Chandreyee Hajra of India and Neer drew with Upananda Sasmitha of Sri Lanka.
Earlier FM Fahad and Neer both earned also silver medals in Rapid chess which was held on 5th September.
A total of 187 players from 7 Asian countries participated in the event. Bangladesh Chess Federation provided all expenses of FM Fahad and Neer to participate in the event.
