Factory making adulterated ghee unearthed in city

Staff Reporter :A mobile Court of Rapid Action Battalion’s (RAB) unearthed an unlawful ghee-manufacturing factory in the city’s Begum Bazar area early on Tuesday.RAB Headquarters’ executive magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha led the court for the anti-adulteration drive under the Special Food Security Act.The law enforcers seized three drums of contaminated ghee, many of empty containers of different ghee brands and pack machines from the factory during the drive, RAB officials said.Sources said that a mobile court of Rab-10, led by AHM Anwar Pasha, conducted the anti-adulteration drive at building No. 70/2, Begum Bazar, in the Capital around 1: 00am.Anwar Pasha asked the authorities concerned to file a case against them under the Special Powers Act. However, the factory owners fled the scene sensing the presence of the mobile court team, they added. Rab sources said that the factory owner Abdus Sattar, 65, and his son Sohel, 29, set up the illegal ghee-producing factory on the ground floor and two others on the 4th floor of the building. They used to gather empty containers of different ghee brands, including Red Cow, Aarong, Pran, Baghabari, and then market their adulterated ghee under the cover of these containers, said another source.Earlier, Sattar and Sohel were also arrested on July 12, 2011 on the same charge and awarded two years of simple imprisons, they further said.
