DUE to heavy traffic in the railway website for online ticket purchasing on the first day of advance ticket sale, thousands of people stuck in mess as the server get clogged. Failing to buy tickets through Online, many holidaymakers on Wednesday rushed to the city’s Railway stations which saw long queues of ticket-seekers from early morning. Usually, demand for train tickets skyrocket during Eid vacations as smooth road communication fails due to long tailbacks. As an easy and affordable mean of communication, railway has high demand in the country, but the government has no policy to modernize and make the service corruption free.
Bangladesh Railway decided to sell 50 percent of the total Eid season tickets Online through app, SMS and Railway website to ease people’s sufferings at ticket counters. Last year, 25 percent tickets were sold Online. But a large number of people complained that they could not buy tickets using the Rail Sheba app or the website. However, CNS Limited, which provides Online services to passengers on behalf of the Railway, claimed there was no technical glitch in their system. To ease the ticket selling system, the Railway authority for the first time introduces ticket selling at five different places.
It’s just unbelievable Railways is still not skilled enough to provide tickets to its passengers using digital facilities. If so then how it would provide a hassle-free journey to millions of passengers during Eid vacation? Technical glitch should be fixed as early as possible and there must be an investigation to find out the reason.
Side by side, the authorities should improve and modernize the Railway service immediately to ease the communication system. The government in the recent years has involved millions of taka for roads, bridges, over-bridges, flyovers but the desired development is still a far cry. The Railway Department should also undergo some sorts of purge to root out the corruption to make it a modern and profitable public enterprise.
