Eye surgery for Rohingya children restored their vision

Orbis’s humanitarian response programme is restoring vision of Myanmar’s (Rohingya) children in Bangladesh.
Orbis, an internationally reputed mobile charitable Opthalmology care hospital extending their services in Bangladesh since long. With the support of Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD), QCV Expanding Eye Care in South East Bangladesh project has performed the follow up surgery on April 5, 2019. Chittagong Eye Infirmary & Training Complex (CEITC) is providing surgical assistance to this program under the supervision of Orbis’s partner Cox’s Bazar Baitush Sharaf Hospital in Cox’s Bazar.
 The program has provided surgical operation to nine Myanmar’s children alongwith all necessary medicines and relevant services. One year old Nur Sadeka was born with congenital cataract had first surgery on last December 2018 and now she received surgical treatment on other eyes. Her vision on both eyes is restored.
 Like Nur Sadeka, Mohammed Sohel, Aysha Begum (10), Md Soyab (11), Nur Bibi (8), Md. Junaied (3) received surgical treatment and on-going medical support. Though there have primary eye care services in the Rohingya camp at Balukhali of Ukhia and other area but there were no pediatric surgery facilities, which prompted CEITC to provide with its skills and facilities for the Rohingya children.
 Dr Merajul Islam of CEITC performed the surgeries at CETIC. Prior to the launching of surgery, Orbis conducted eye screenings at Balukhali, other camps and Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) within the camps. Then the children identified with eye problems were referred for surgery at CEITC.
The project so far examined and provided medical treatment to more than 40,000 Myanmar citizen including adult and children as well as over 10,000 from host community.
