The UK-based global professional services company Ernst & Young (EY) will provide world-class IT training to Dhaka University students to groom up them as IT professionals and ensure their contribution to the fast-growing IT sector. An EY delegation, led by its Advisory Services Director Kamlesh Vyas, on Sunday met Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office and sought cooperation of the university authorities in launching the training programme on the DU campus. The World Bank-financed Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division has entrusted the EY to provide quality training to 30,000 youths of different universities and colleges free of cost.
Of the total 30,000 youths, 10,000 science and computer science graduates will get Top-Up IT Training, while 20,000 non-IT students will get foundation training.
At the meeting, the DU and EY agreed in principle to launch the Top-Up IT training for the students of science and Computer Science (CS) graduates and foundation training for the non-IT students soon after signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Dhaka University and LICT project.
“This is a very good initiative to provide IT training to the students of Dhaka University, and we’re hopeful of signing a MoU with LICT Project soon in this regard,” said Prof Arefin Siddique. He said there is no alternative to providing quality IT training to the educated youths for building Digital Bangladesh in line with the Vision 2021.
“The country’s IT sector lacks skilled human resources. If DU students get quality IT training from EY, they could contribute a lot towards boosting the IT sector as well building a knowledge-based society,” he said.
Kamlesh informed the DU Vice Chancellor about EY’s plan to create 30,000 IT skilled human resources in this country and said the EY has already started pre-piloting at Shaheed Titumir College to chalk out well-thought-out and pragmatic training programmes in colleges and universities.
“Obviously, the EY’s training will be of international standard and those who’ll receive the training could use it in their professional career,” he said.
LICT Project Management Specialist Sarker Abul Kalam Azad told the DU Vice-Chancellor that EY has agreed to provide jobs to 60 percent of the 10,000 Top Up trainees in the IT industry of home and abroad. Communication Specialist of LICT Project Ajit Kumar Sarkar and EY senior official Punit Pandey were, among others, present.
