An alleged banned extremist leader of”Lal Potaka’ was killed in Pabna and three others activists of JMB were arrested in Narayanganj on Monday.
A suspected leader of banned extremist group ‘Lal Potaka’ was killed in a gunfight with law enforcers in Pabna Sadar upazila on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Abul Hossain alias Abul Nakhsal, 55, son of Golam Uddin of Varara union under Pabna Sadar upazila.
He was the district commander of the outfit and a listed terrorist of police. Besides, he was accused in nine cases filed on charges of murder, explosion and other offences.
Police sources said, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive in Varara union to prevent an act of sabotage at dawn. Sense police presence at Dhopakola Bridge, terrorists opened fire at them, which triggered the gunfight.
After a while, terrorists fled the spot, leaving behind the bullet-hit body of Abul Hossain. Later, he was declared dead at Pabna Sadar Hospital.
Police also recovered one revolver, four bullets, six cartridges and four bullet shells from the scene.
Gautam Kumar Biswas, Additional Superintendent of Pabna Police confirmed the matter to media.
In Narayanganj, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB- 11) claimed that they arrested of three active militants, including one female member, of the banned Islamist outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh yesterday.
The alleged militants were identified as: Shahnaz Akhter alias Sadika alias Shahana, 25, hailing from Faridganj of Chandpur, Rezaul Karim, 28, hailing from Kaunia area of Barishal and Zahirul Islam Palash, 27, hailing from Bakerganj of Barishal.
At a press conference in Siddhirganj, RAB-11 headquarters Captain Commander Rasel Ahmed Kabir on Monday said that they detained the trio in drives conducted in Madaninagar area of Siddhirganj and Demra area of Dhaka on Sunday night.
A foreign pistol, two rounds of bullet, knife and extremism-related books and leaflets were also seized from their possession, the press briefing was told.
