Though the government has fixed the rate of Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder, the retailers are charging more from the customers.
The government of Bangladesh has fixed Tk 1271 for cylinder whereas it is being sold at retail level for Tk 1500.
The anarchism in LPG sector is going on as the private LPG Company is charging what they want by denying the government direction.
When asked why LPG is being sold at high price, Bashundara LPG Company’s marketing department chief Jakaria Jalal said, it is true that the price of LPG cylinder is charging high.
He said the rate of fuel has jumped high. We have to work for price adjustment with fuel as it has impacted in all sectors.
He further said when fuel price was Tk 65, that time we asked govt for price adjustment but they did not care of our demand. Now per litter fuel at Tk 114 which has increased our cost to Tk 20-22 per kg. As a result the price of LPG has increased.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Chairman Md. Abdul Jalil said the companies have no rights to charge more by violating the government directions.
BERC Chairman said we did not get any complaints on the issue. If anyone files any allegation with voucher, the BERC along with Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection will take action.
Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) President Golam Rahman said, we want the LPG companies with charge as the government fixed for sale.
He said the law enforcers agencies should ensure it, otherwise the customery will lose their money.
