Terming extra judicial killings as unacceptable, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said it cannot be supported in any manner.
If anybody is victim of crossfire of the Rapid Action Battalion or police, the forces will be held accountable for this offence, he said.
The minister made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a meeting organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) held at its auditorium on the occasion of the inauguration of refurbishment of the SCBA building.
After the incident of the sensational seven-murder case that took place in Narayanganj, many had expressed their doubt about the trial of the killings, but the offenders, including three former Rab officials, have been convicted and sentenced to death and imprisonment, he added.
“If the offenders are not tried and punished, they will continue committing offence,” the minister observed.
Rezaul, also a former secretary of the SCBA, stressed the need of making the bar associations stronger in order to strengthen the judiciary.
The bar associations must be kept free from politics, he said, adding that sometimes the bar associations are seen influenced by politics.
He said the incumbent government believes in the independence of judiciary, rule of law and democracy.
SCBA President AM Amin Uddin, its Secretary Ruhul Quddus Kazal, former secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, among others, spoke at the program.
