Extra-curricular activities to make students worthy citizen stressed

State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder on Saturday urged the students to practice extra-curricular activities to make them mentally and physically sound for ensuring their active participation in building a happy and prosperous country.
Students should be engaged in sports and cultural activities for harmonious development of body, mind and soul to become worthy citizens, he told the inaugural function of Cardiff Bijoy Inter School Sports and Cultural Fiesta-2014 on the ground of Mohammadpur Government Physical Education College here.
Secretary of National Sports Council Sibnath Roy, Principal of Cardiff International School Dhaka GM Nizam Uddin, teachers and former players of national team of both cricket and football, among others, addressed the function.
Alongside academic studies, Biren said, the authorities of all educational institutions should take steps for practicing extra-curricular activities for students to unlock their human potentials to become global citizens.
Sports are wonderful way to enhance image of the country at international level, he said, adding, “We have taken various initiatives to make Bangladesh one of the leading sporting nations to increase its image at global level.”
