Extortionists and members of different banned outlaw parties have again started their activities at different parts of Khulna city and at nine upazilas in Khulna district concerning peaceful law-abiding people , it is alleged.
The extortionists are realising extortions by introducing themselves in different ways in several guises. Recently, five extortionists were arrested from Phulbarigate (Shiromoni-Giletala) area under Khanjahan Ali Police station in the city which was ascertained by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the said Police station Md. Shafiqul Islam.
Recently, two policemen , an ASI of Tootpara Police outpost under Khulna Kotwali Police station named Sifatullah and another ASI named Miran of Gallamari Police Box under Sonadanga Model police station under KMP) were arrested by the police for an alleged involvement of extortion by blackmailing a businessman at Nirala area in the city. They were placed for remand before a court here and the court granted remand prayer. Earlier, the businessman Sanjit Sheel filed a case against them with Khulna Kotwali Police station in connection with the incident. It was ascertained to the reporters by the Officer-In-Charge (OC) Md. Humayun Kabir.
Local people alleged that some victimized persons fled away from their locality after selling houses in fear of ferocious extortionists particularly from Sonadanga, Khulna Sadar, Daulatpur and Khanjahan Ali Police station area in the city. Even the witnesses in respect of extortion cases dared not go to the court for giving witness in fear of the ferocious extortionists. The witnesses also fled away from the localities.
Local people further alleged that the extortionists introduce themselves sometimes as members of detective branch (DB), police officers, RAB personnel, members of different intelligence wings and local elite persons, but their actual acquaintance is that they are extortionists. But the victimized persons dare not to disclose the names of the extortionists in fear of losing their lives. Recently some 38 banned extremists surrendered in Khulna. But the extortionists who have not yet surrendered, they have been committing their evil deeds afresh, it is alleged.
Members of banned Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) has been conducting their evil deeds including realization of extortion, killing and grabbing lands in Khulna region by giving threat over cell phones. They have changed their styles of realization of extortion. Over phones, the leaders of the party send their representatives to the persons whom are targeted by them and ask to give extortion in the name of expenses for eating sweetmeats and other necessaries . The PBCP leaders are divided into different parts , they hide themselves from the society and common people are unknown about their hidden den. Of course, they sometimes enter in the locality wearing masks and as such the local people can not recognize them. Members of law enforcers now and then conduct drives but the insurgents mange to escape from the scene.
Sources said, these PBCP members are very familiar to the common people, their faces are well known, but the common people never dare to say their names or identities in fear of losing their. Taking this opportunity, they have been committing their ill-deeds without any hesitation.
