Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on sunday said that extortion from sacrificial cattle-laden trucks must be stopped ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The Minister directed all to take action in this regard as the names of political leaders, transport workers even few policemen are heard.
He briefed this after holding a meeting with the law enforcers in the secretariat on Sunday.
The law enforcers will keep extra watch on cattle-laden trucks to check extortion from the traders and growers, the Minister said.
No temporary market will be set on highways and rail trucks ahead of the Eid, he added.
The name-plate along with the name of hat (market) will be displayed in front of every cattle laden-truck.
The country has a total of 11.6 million cows, buffaloes, goats and sheep ‘ready for Eid slaughtering while the stock was 10.42 million in last year.
Of them, 4.457 million are cows and buffaloes, while 7.1 million are goats and sheep, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said in a statement on Sunday.
According to the Directorate of Livestock, nearly 23.113 million cows, buffaloes, goats and sheep are slaughtered for food each year.
The government has set August 21 to Aug 23 for the Eid holidays, subject to the sighting of the moon. Eid-ul Azha is likely to be observed on August 22.
