An extensive Rabi crop cultivation program has been taken up in the district by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in the current season.
DAE sources said, a total of 1, 55,118 hectares of land has been brought under Rabi crop cultivation program with the aim of producing 9,17,025 metric tonnes of food grain, winter vegetables, oil seed, spices and pulses.
According to the source, different variety of Boro paddy will be cultivated on 35,225 hectares with the target of producing 13,913 metric tonnes of paddy while maize will be cultivated on 54 hectares to produce 347 metric tonnes.
Wheat will be cultivated on 26,630 hectares of land to produce 73,860
metric tonnes of wheat. Potato and sweet potato will be cultivated on 212 and 231 hectares respectively for producing 4,382 metric tonnes of potato and 3,800 metric tonnes of sweet potato. On the other hand, mustard will be cultivated on 9,760 hectares to produce a total of 1000 metric tonnes of edible oil.
Ground nut will be cultivated on 4,196 hectares to produce 5,587 metric tonnes. Sugarcane will be cultivated on 7,344 hectares to produce 3,52,512 metric tonnes of sugarcane, the source said.
Various types of pulses including lentil on 14,642 hectares, grain on 296 hectares, mug on 1,172 hectares, kheshari on 11,500 hectares, motor on 840 hectares and mashkalai on 2,751 hectares will be cultivated to produce a total of 27,700 metric tonnes of protein substitute food.
A total of 4,486 hectares of land has been brought under different kinds of vegetable cultivation to produce 87,200 metric tonnes of vegetable.
Onion has been cultivated on 27,919 hectares to produce 1, 72,652 metric tonnes of onion and garlic on 3,552 hectares for producing 21,690 metric tonnes of garlic.
Spices including coriander seed and green chili will be cultivated on 6,412 hectares and 1,878 hectares to produce 7,876 and 2,217 metric tonnes respectively, the source said.
