Extensive Boro cultivation programme in Gaibandha

 An extensive Boro cultivation programme has been taken in all the seven upazilas of the district during the current season.
Official sources said the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has set a plan to bring 1,24,179 hectares of land under Boro cultivation this year with a production target of 5,01,039 tonnes of rice.
Of the total, some 19,500 hectares would be brought under the cultivation in Sadar Upazila, 14,500 in Sadullapur Upazila, 12,700 in Palashbari Upazila, 30,375 in Gobindaganj Upazila, 24,150 in Sundarganj Upazila, 14,750 in Shaghata Upazila and 8,204 in Fulchhari Upazila.
The farmers of the district have prepared seed beds on 6200 hectares with the seedlings growing well.
Though the green seedlings were being affected due to cold wave with dense fog sweeping the northern region including Gaibandha district, the department took precautionary measures to protect the seedlings from cold injuries through motivating the farmers.
To make the cultivation a success, necessary measures have been taken to supply fertilizers, insecticides, electricity and other agri inputs to the farmers at fair prices side by side ensuring with irrigation facility, an official of DAE said.
Talking to the BSS, deputy director (DD) of DAE here Mir Abdur Razzak said the farmers of the district were taking preparations to farm Boro paddy on their respective land successfully.
In reply to a question, the DD said the transplantation of raised seedlings of Boro paddy would start at the middle of the month of January and continue till March 15 next.
