Twenty-two of the 51 Bangladesh missions abroad have failed to achieve respective export targets for the first seven months (July-January) of the current fiscal (2013-14).
The key Bangladesh missions like Washington, London, Ottawa, Canberra and New Delhi failed to achieve their July-January export target while some other important missions-Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Rome and The Hague-reached their target for the period.
The overall export earnings for the July-January period of the current fiscal totaled US$ 17,439.58 million against the strategic target of US$ 16,924.45 million, having a growth of 3.04 percent over the strategic target.
Of the 51 Bangladesh missions, 29 met their respective export target for the July-January period of the current fiscal (FY14), according to the latest figures provided by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The 29 well-performing missions are Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Rome, The Hague, Stockholm, Brussels, Tokyo, Ankara, Beijing, Seoul, Singapore, Geneva, Cairo, Hanoi, Amman, Kuwait, Colombo, Doha, Tashkent, Manama, Thimpu, Beirut, Lisbon, Male, Mexico City, Tripoli, Brunei and Port Louis.
Of the 22 Bangladesh missions that could not achieve their target for the first seven months of the current fiscal, exports still marked a rise for 10 of them over the corresponding period of the last fiscal (2012-13). These missions are in Washington, London, Canberra, Ottawa, Tehran, Jakarta, Nairobi, Moscow, Kualalumpur and Muscat.
However, 12 missions-New Delhi, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Katmandu, Dubai, Riyadh, Pretoria, Islamabad, Manila, Brasilia, Yangon and Rabat-saw exports decline during the July-January period of the current fiscal compared to the same period of the last fiscal (2012-13).
The EPB figures revealed that out of the 17 Bangladesh missions having commercial wings, only seven have achieved the export target set for them while 10 others could not achieve their target.
The seven missions with commercial wings, which achieved their respective export target, are in Berlin, Madrid, Brussels, Tokyo, Paris, Beijing and Geneva.
Although the remaining 10 commercial wings could not achieve the target, but earnings of 7 of them still saw increase over the 2012-13 fiscal. These are in Washington, London, Ottawa, Tehran, Canberra, Moscow and Kualalumpur.
The 29 Bangladesh missions that succeeded in achieving their target for the July-January period of the current fiscal accounted for $ 9754.26 million while the export earnings of the remaining 22 missions, which failed to achieve their target, totaled $ 7,274.12 million.
The highest earnings over the seven-month period, some $ 3342.62 million-almost one-fifth of total exports-were registered by the Washington mission, followed by the mission in Berlin which accounted for $ 2955.88 million and London $ 1745.00 million.
