Export-Import through Benapole halts

The Export-Import trade between Bangladesh and India has been suspended since morning through Benapole port on Monday. Import-export between India and Bangladesh is closed due to Janmashtami holiday, a religious festival of the followers of traditional religions of India. However, passport passengers are normally traveling between the two countries.
Thousands of trucks were stranded in the Indian side due to the suspension of import and export. Especially perishable products are at risk. The government is deprived of revenue of Tk 25 crore due to one day suspended of import -Export.
Kartik Chakraborty, general secretary of the Petrapole C&F Agents Staff Welfare Association of India, said, Due to Janmashtami public holiday in India on Monday, import-export trade through Petrapole-Benapole port is closed all day. Import-export trade will resume from Tuesday morning.
Benapole Land Port Director (Traffic) Abdul Jalil confirmed the matter, adding that the Petrapole Port Authority of India has informed us to suspend the import- Export activities on Monday as there is a public holiday on Janmashtami.
Trade between the two countries will resume on Tuesday morning.
Benapole Custom House Commissioner Md. Azizur Rahman said,Imports and exports through Benapole-Petrapole port are closed on Monday due to Janmashtami holiday.
However, the empty trucks carrying imported goods from India, the Customs Cargo Branch is open for return the Indian trucks. However, passport passengers travelled between the two countries.
