Prime mover, trailers strike postponed: Export consignment of Tk.3000 cr obstructed at off-docks of Ctg Port

The utter deadlock of export and import trade arisen in the Chittagong Port following the 4 days long indefinite strike of the Prime movers, trailor Owners.
During last 4 days, about 2700 containers could not load in vessels, a port user sources said. The sufferers sources said about 3000 export commodity loaded containers are now lying in 16 private ICDs in Chittagong lack of transportations by prime movers.
Sources said if the exporter fails shipment of cargos in vessels in due time, these cargo should be sent to the buyers by air transports. The air transport of RMG products is very much expensive and there is every possibility of becoming bankrupt exporters. While contacted first vice president of BGMEA of Chittagong chapter Moinuddin Minto told the media that about 6000 export cargo laden containers are lying in 16 private ICDs in Chittagong as well as 4,218 import cargo laden containers are also in port yards lack of transportation. He further told that the salary and other allowances of the workers are supposed to be paid by next week and if we fail to shipment of RMG products in due time, the factory owners will be compelled to shut down the factories due to non-payment of workers remunerations .
Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association General Secretary Ruhul Amin Sikder told the New Nation that the total storing capacity of 16 private ICS in chittagong is about 60 thousand containers and at present 56 thousand containers now in stored .
Prime Movers Trailors Owners Oikya Parishad member-secretary Abu Bakkar siddique told the media at midnight on Thursday that they have postponed the strike from Friday after assurances by the district administration regarding imposing penalty over the excess load of container at affordable amount not more than Tk.2 thousand.
