Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin on Friday said that he would give explanation within seven days about demanding bribe by some government officials from him.
“The explanation will be given to the LGRD Ministry within seven days. I have heard that a show-cause notice was served on me. On Friday morning I returned from Dhaka.
The office remains closed on Friday. And the office will also remain closed on Saturday,” he told journalists after attending a function at Muslim Institute auditorium in the port city Chittagong yesterday.
He said when the office would reopen on Sunday he would go to his workplace.
“And I will do everything officially to reply the show-cause notice. I’m not a man of street. Taking responsibility I have told about the bribe demanded by some government officials from me,” the CCC Mayor said.
On Thursday the LGRD ministry served a show-cause notice on Nasir Uddin asking him to clarify his recent remarks within seven days about demanding bribe by some government officials.
Earlier on Wednesday AJM Nasir Uddin at a public meeting in the port city Chittagong, said, he received only Tk 80 crore but if he would bribe the civil servants the amount would have been Tk 300 crore to Tk 350 crore. Besides, a Joint Secretary of the ministry also demanded a Pajero jeep from him as bribe, the mayor added.
After issuing the show-cause notice LGRD secretary Abdul Malek said the CCC mayor would have to prove that which officials, how and in what way, have demanded bribe and a jeep from him. He must disclose the names of the officials, he added.
The CCC mayor in his Wednesday public meeting said, “I was told that whatever amount the city corporation needs will be given as a block allocation, but I would have to give them 5 percent of the sum for that.”
“When I asked where I would get the money, I was told to manage it from the contractors. How would I do that?
