Speakers at a seminar on Saturday urged the banks to play an effective role to help the country’s young people turn into entrepreneurs instead of joining the race of job-seekers.
They made the call at the seminar titled “Role of Technology-based Knowledge and Marketing Strategy in Developing Entrepreneurs”, organized by the Entrepreneurs Club of Dhaka School of Economics (DScE) at DScE auditorium in the city.
The speakers opined if the young people get bank’s cooperation and technology-based training, they might turn themselves into successful entrepreneurs utilizing their potentiality.
Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad was present at the seminar as chief guest while former Managing Director of Pubali Bank and supernumerary professor of BIBM Helal Ahmad Chowdhury was special guest. DScE Entrepreneur Economics Course Coordinator Professor Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali chaired the seminar.
Cover of the book “Growth of Equity: Perspective of Bangladesh” was also unwrapped in the seminar.
Helal Uddin said banks are being operated with unjustified interest rate and thus compromising with the quality for more profit.
“Banking sector is needed to be entrepreneur friendly as the country has still over 34 percent people below the age of 30. So, we have to think how we can turn them (young people) into entrepreneurs rather than job seekers,” he added.
Muhammad Mahboob Ali said both bank financing and technology-based training are required for the new entrepreneurs. “There is no alternative to technical knowledge and marketing strategy that is why the universities have to put emphasis on quality education as per the requirement of employment,” he opined.
Kholiquzzaman Ahmad said it should be discussed whether the technology is destroying or developing the environment. “We should keep vigilance so that divide and disparity can take place as technology is still confined to the hands of a few people.”
In the seminar, two research papers were presented by Director of ACI Formulation Limited M Shamsuzzaman and Vice President of Bangladesh Centre for Fourth Industrial Revolution Syed Tamjid Ur Rahman. DScE Associate Professors Rehana Parveen and Sarah Tasneem also spoke.
