Experts for reviving past glory of ‘golden fibre’

Experts at a views-sharing meeting here have stressed for making the various pragmatic steps taken by the government successful in reviving past glory of the eco-friendly ‘golden’ fibre of jute.
They were addressing the daylong regional views-sharing meeting organised by the Directorate of Jute under the Ministry of Jute and Textile at the conference room of Rangpur Zila parishad in the city on Sunday.. The meeting was arranged under the ‘High Yielding Jute and Jute Seed Production and Improved Jute Retting Project’ of the Ministry of Jute and Textiles for high officials of the Directorate of Jute of Rangpur, Dinajpur and Bogra Regions.
Project Director (Joint Secretary) of the Directorate of Jute Dr Sheikh Muhammad Rezaul Islam attended the meeting as the chief guest and narrated various government steps taken for reviving past glory of jute with directions for proper implementation.
Senior Assistant Directors (Coordination) of the Directorate of Jute Mossarraf Hossain for Rangpur Region, Kamal Krishna Kundu for Dinajpur Region and Solaiman Ali for Bogra Region addressed the meeting as the special guests.
Rangpur Sadar Upazila Jute Development Officer Mahbub Alam Biswas, Taraganj Upazila Assistant Jute Development Officer Mizanur Rahman Tuhin, Sub-assistant Jute Development Officer Abu Bakar Siddique addressed, among others.
The regional, district and upazila level officials of the Directorate of Jute from Rangpur, Dinajpur and Bogra Regions participated in the meeting.
The speakers said that the multidimensional use of jute products has been increasing following adverse effects of synthetic fibre on environment throughout the world ushering a new hope for revival of the past glory of the ‘golden’ fibre.
They discussed various steps taken for increasing production of quality jute seed and jute, promoting jute sector, introduction of the low-cost ribbon retting method of the fibre during water scarcity to improve quality and grade for ensuring better market prices.
