Experts for protecting domestic industries interests

Business experts and chamber leaders here at a discussion called for protecting the interests of domestic industries
for the sake of job creation and boosting economic growth. They opined that role of domestic industries is very important forbolstering socio-economic condition of both rural and urban areas. So, entrepreneurs and business leaders should come forward and work together to this end.
They came up with the observation while addressing a seminar titled “Role and Activities of Bangladesh Tariff Commission to Protect Interests of Domestic Industries” in Rajshahi recently.
Bangladesh Tariff Commission (BTC) and Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) jointly organized the seminar at RCCI Board Room.
Chaired by RCCI president Md Muniruzzaman, the seminar was addressed, among others, by BTC member Abu Raihan Al Beruni and its assistant chief Abdul Latif and research officer Mohinul Karim Khandaker, divisional director of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Ataul Gani and president of Bangladesh Silk Industries Owners Association Liakat Ali.
Moniruzzaman said every country work for protecting the interests of own domestic industries and Bangladesh is not lag behind in this regard as it has been working for expansion of trade and business through protecting the interest of domestic industries.
Abu Raihan Beruni told the seminar that the BTC is directly involved with various works relating to bilateral and regional trade treaty with world trade organizations, international trade and customs strategy.
 He also said BTC works for protecting the legitimate interests of domestic industries with resisting the dishonest businesses.
The issues of antidumping, countervailing and safety measures were discussed elaborately in the seminar.
