Experts for optimum, safer use of pesticides

Experts at a training workshop have stressed optimum and safer use of pesticides in crop fields to save the products from poisonous contamination causing harms to public health.
They especially underscored the need for educating the farmers and disseminating adequate knowledge among them for using pesticides to the optimum level in combating pests’ attacks and crop diseases.
Rangpur Chapter of Bangladesh Crop Protection Association (BCPA) organised the workshop on ‘Safer and Optimum use of Pesticides’ for 30 male and female farmers at the Farmers’ Training Centre at Badarganj upazila town on Monday.
Badarganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Mahbubur Rahman attended the workshop, arranged with the assistance of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), as the chief guest.
Agriculture Extension Officer Shariful Islam and Regional Sales Manager of Marshal Agrovet Chemical Industries Limited Ali Azam attended and addressed the workshop as special guests.
Associate Sales Manager of Beximco Insecticides Limited Hazzad Ahammad Bhuiyan delivered keynote presentation on ‘Safer and Optimum use of Pesticides’ with Area Sales Manager of Macdonald Bangladesh Limited Taposh Kumar Ghosh in the chair.
Experts and trainers of different pesticide and insecticide producing companies and industries conducted different sessions of the daylong workshop as resource persons.
The experts said farmers should have adequate knowledge on pesticide use and its handling as half of the farmers in Bangladesh still use more pesticides than the optimum quantity.
