Health experts at an orientation meeting here have stressed for adopting family planning in containing population growth, reducing maternal and neonatal deaths side by side ensuring safe motherhood.
They put special emphasis on expanding family planning programme to every able couple through creating mass social awareness to contain population growth rate that has become an inevitable essence of the time in building healthier nation.
The District Family Planning Department (DFPD) organised the meeting for media workers on the concept of smaller family, nutrition, safe motherhood and delivery, methods for family planning at the conference room of the Civil Surgeon on Thursday.
With Deputy Director of the DFPD Dr Shafikul Islam in the chair, Civil Surgeon Dr Reajul Islam attended and addressed the meeting as the chief guest and journalists from the print, electronic and inline media participated in it.
Assistant Directors of Family Planning Department Dr Enamul Haque and Dr Nabiul Islam narrated the importance of keeping family smaller through adopting different short, medium and long-term as well as permanent family planning methods.
Terming present population growth rate as still higher, the speakers said development plans of the government might not be successful unless all able couples adopted short and long-term as well as permanent methods of family planning.
Highlighting various aspects of family planning and its importance to the country’s economic growth, they stressed for bringing more dynamism in family planning activities for greater national interest to make the country free from poverty and illiteracy in future.
They urged all to encourage the able couples in both urban and rural areas for adopting short and long-term as well as permanent methods of family planning and popularize the message of ‘not more than two children, but one is better’.
They called upon the media workers for playing their due role giving more importance on creating mass public awareness among the lower and marginal people to make the nation’s family planning program a total success, they added.
