Health experts at a discussion here have laid emphasis on comprehensive efforts of the government, non- government and private organizations to build a blindness free society.
The Civil Surgeon Office organised the post-rally discussion at the conference room of Sadar Hospital in Rangpur in observance of the World Sight Day- 2016 with the theme of ‘Stronger Together” on Tuesday.
The Civil Surgeon Office in association with Community Eye Care and Research Centre, Deep Eye Care, Mariyam Eye Hospital, World Vision, BRAC, Surjer Hanshi Clinic (SHC), Merry Stopes, LAMB Hospital and Light House arranged programmes, including rally, in observance of the day.
Hundreds of people, including eye care service providers, eye specialists, officials, employees, professionals, socio-cultural, human rights and NGO activists, students, teachers and elite took part in the rally.
Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Mozammel Hossain attended the post-rally discussion as the chief guest with Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr Himangshu Lal Roy in the chair.
Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Ahad Ali Sarker, Programme Manager of Light House Samir Uddin, Manager of SHC Abdus Salam, representatives Shyamol Chandra Roy of BRAC and Habibuzzaman of LAMB Hospital addressed as special guests.
The chief guest narrated various reasons behind blindness, its national and global situations, and the ongoing steps to prevent cornea and refraction related blindness of the children.
He put emphasis on comprehensive GO-NGO and private sector collaboration to create social awareness about the reasons behind blindness and providing necessary health services to the people in building a blindness free society.
