Arrested three accused including the prime accused of triple murder at village Moshiali under Khan Jahan Ali Police Station in Khulna have been placed on a five-day remand for questioning.
The prime accused and expelled Awami League leader Sheikh Zakaria, his brother Milton and another accused Raju were placed
on remand by Md Shahidul Islam, judge of the Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3, on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case inspector Md Enamul Huque pleaded to the court to place the accsued on a ten-day remand. However, the court placed them on a five-day remand after the hearing.
Enamul Huque said the accused were arrested by the Khulna City detective branch of police from Mirpur area in Dhaka on Friday morning.
He said three people were shot dead at Moshiali area under Khan Jahan Ali Police Staion of Khulna city on July 16 this year. Following the incident, local Awami League leader Sheikh Zakaria, his brother Milton and Raju went into hiding. Arrested Zakaria and two others were brought in Khulna city after their arrest. They would be questioned what were the reasons of the murders and who were involved in it.
Enamul Huq further said 13, out of 22 accused of the case have so far been arrested. Efforts are going on to arrest other accused.
At night on July 16 last, Md Nazrul Islam, son of Barek Sheikh and Golam Rasul, son of Yunus Ali of village Moshiali under Gilatola union were killed in firing by Sheikh Zakaria’s followers near Eastern Gate in Khulna city. At that time, several others–Md Saiful Islam, Afsar Sheikh, Shamim, Robi, Khalilur Rahman and Moshiar Rahman received bullet injuries. Bullet-ridden Saiful Islam died on the following morning.
Later on July 18, Md Shahidul Islam, father of slain Saiful Islam, filed a murder case with Khan Jahan Ali Police Station naming 22 persons and 15 to 16 other unidentified persons as accused. Khan Jahan Ali Thana Awami League’s expelled assistant publicity secretary Sheikh Zakaria Hossain Zakar, his brother expelled Khulna City Chhatra League vice-president Sheikh Zafrin, and convicted in an arms case Milton were implicated in the case.
