Family members of Meherunnesa Rima, who died of maltreatment while giving birth to her baby at the Surgiscope Hospital here, on Wednesday demanded the private hospital’s immediate closure.
The demand was made at a human chain organised by the deceased’s family members, relatives and friends in front of the Chittagong Press Club in the afternoon. Meherunnesa Rima, 25, daughter of Khairul Bashar and also the niece of Expatriate Welfare Minister Nurul Islam BSc, died in the hospital while giving birth to a baby.
Khairul Bashar alleged that the physicians of the hospital killed his daughter providing maltreatment.
“We demand punishment for the accused physicians and cancellation of the hospital’s license,” he added.
Earlier on January 9, Rima got admitted at the Surgiscope Hospital and died while giving birth to a girl baby.
Since the incident, Dr Shamima Siddiqui Rozy, a gynaecologist of Chittagong Medical College Hospital and also a part-time doctor of the hospital, has been absconding.
