Police arrested one of the culprits who carried out physical torture on the wife of an expatriate during arbitration at Manohorpur village in Lalmai Upazila on Friday.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Dakkhin Model Police Station Mamun-or-Rashid said police arrested one of the accused Selim, 25, of the village on Friday after victim Shirin Akhter filed a case withCumillaSadar Police Station.
Local sources said Shirin locked into a heated altercation with another neighbouring woman that later led to a blame-game of an extra-marital affair of Shirin on September 3.
Following the brawl, an arbitration meeting was held at the homestead of Shirin’s husband.
Shirin was severely beaten with a cane as per the decision of the arbitration headed by village leader Soleman Mehedi.
The video footage of the inhume torture went viral on Facebook and Shirin filed a case withCumillaSadar Police Station accusing eight people including Soleman Mehedi as prime one.
Search is on to arrest the rest seven who went into hiding soon after the incident, the OC added.
